Manual
Recipe Creation
Section 4
After choosing <Brew Beer> the recipe menu will be displayed as shown in figure 4.1
The first time you turn the device on choose <New Recipe>, and the screen will show the module "Creation of New Recipe", the display of which is shown in figure 4.2
Put the cursor in the input field "NAME OF NEW RECIPE" and choose the name of a recipe using the on-screen keyboard. The standard Android mode of text input is used and will not be considered in detail in this document. Then set malt used in a particular recipe.
To add malt press the symbol "+" to the right of the option <MALT> (see figure 4.2). The dialog box of adding malt will appear on the screen (see figure 4.3)
Choose a name of malt from the Malt database from the dialog box and set a mass in grams. Then press <SAVE>. This way, all sorts of malt used in the recipe can be added. The mass of malt is used to calculate the total water volume. Then it is necessary to add hop to the recipe.
To add hop press the symbol "+" to the right of the option <HOP> (see figure 4.2). The dialog box of adding hop will appear on the screen (see figure 4.2)
Choose a name of hop from the Hop database from the dialog box, set a mass in grams and set the time when hop should be added to wort after boiling. Then press <SAVE>. This way, all sorts of hop used in the recipe can be added. BeerRender lets add 1-2 doses/portions gradually during one brewing process in dependence of the recipe. When adding hop take into account a line sequence in the recipe and positions of BeerRender hop containers # 1-3. The first line corresponds to the container that is nearer to the front edge of BeerRender. The second line corresponds to the middle container, etc. If hop was added to the recipe once, during the boiling only hop container # 1 will be cleaned after the indicated time.
After adding malt and hop the BeerRender display will look like as shown in figure 4.5.
Then, set the total volume of wort that is necessary to get after boiling. To indicate the total volume of wort, choose the option <Total Volume of Wort> (figure 4.2) from the menu. The dialog box of the total volume of wort will be displayed, as shown in figure 4.6.
It is recommended to indicate 15-25 liters as an optimum volume of wort.

Then, set the water volume for malt doughing. Choose the option <Volume for Doughing> on the recipe display. Setting of the volume for doughing is similar to setting of the total volume of wort, as described earlier.

Then, set temperature pauses. The BeerRender software lets create recipes with an amount of pauses from 1 to 5, apart from the MashOut process the parameters of which are described in a separate section and that is notable for constant mixing and filtering processes between the cooking tank and the doughing tank constantly supporting the set-point temperature.
To indicate the temperature pause press the symbol "+" to the right of the option <PAUSES> (see figure 4.7).
Indicate the pause length in minutes and the pause temperature in the dialog box. To close the dialog box press <SAVE>.

During the temperature pause BeerRender monitors:

  • wort filtration in a close circuit of the doughing tank every 5 minutes tracking the pumped volume that is equal to the doughing water volume specified in the recipe (except 5th pause if the recipe includes it);
  • temperature in the doughing tank; if the temperature drops below 1 °C, it monitors the mixing process between the cooking tank and the doughing tank to raise the temperature up to the set point (except 1st pause).
After adding pauses to the recipe the display of the recipe creation will look like as shown in figure 4.8.
The next stage is to set options of the MashOut process. Set the temperature and MashOut length choosing and changing parameters in the dialog box. Then, set the boiling time and the temperature of wort cooling.
These parameters are at the bottom of the module "Creation of New Recipe", as shown in figure 4.9.
The boiling time and the cooling temperature are indicated alternately. To do this, choose and change parameters in the dialog box. This concludes the creation of a new recipe. To save it, press a symbol at the top right of the screen (see figure 4.9).
